2019 was a spectacular year on the pitch for Somerset County Cricket Club. This culminated in an impressive Royal London Cup victory at Lords and an exciting County Championship season going down to the wire on the last day of the season at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

What you may not know, is that Somerset County Cricket Club also enjoyed a succesful 2019 off the field too! A number of new products, initiatives and partners were welcomed in to the Somerset County Cricket Club family throughout 2019.

With the turn of the new year, we wanted to share some of our commercial highlights from 2019 with you.

LBW Club

In 2019, the SCCC Business Club was revamped and the LBW Club (Leading Businesses in the Westcountry) was born. A package that gives it’s members the opportunity to network at a series of unique events through the year, along with access to the exclusive premium lounge in the Long Room for all formats of cricket. This proved a huge success, and something to significantly build upon for 2020!

We kicked off our networking events with a unique opportunity for LBW members and their guests to get up close to the ICC Cricket World Cup itself! The trophy that England went on to win, was put proudly on show at the Cooper Associates County Ground for the evening with guests having the chance to have a photograph alongside it. A gourmet buffet was served, while those in attendance were treated to a World Cup Panel consisting of former England Internationals Marcus Trescothick, Andy Caddick and Vic Marks all gave insights to their own experiences at World Cups they were involved in.

In May we were in the Royal London 50 Over Cup mode on the pitch, a competition we proudly won at Lord’s on the 25th May. In the group phase we hosted Surrey at the CACG in a Day / Night match. The LBW Club Members and their guests were invited to a pre-match brunch and networking in the Long Room before the fixture. We were joined by Charlie Taylor, host of the award winning ‘Cricket Show’ on BBC Somerset, and the newly appointed CEO of Somerset West and Taunton Council, James Hassett.

In the height of the T20 season, the LBW Club had a VIP Experience during the fixture versus Surrey. Members and guests were invited to the CACG before the official gate opening time to enjoy a champagne reception in our fan village and try some delicious tasters from our matchday vendors!  A cricket bat making-demo was then given by Millichamp and Hall in their workshop at the ground. Shortly before the match, LBW members took their seats for the evening on Gimblett’s Hill, and were provided with a Fish and Chips takeaway supper, Thatcher’s Cider and Granny Gothards Ice Cream.

As the cricket season drew to a close, SCCC hosted an LBW Members & Sponsors barbeque on the Thatchers Terrace. A fabulous vantage point to watch the afternoon’s play versus Yorkshire, the Thatchers Terrace hosted an afternoon of networking and al-fresco dining!

To get our LBW Members in the festive spirit, SCCC Commercial Team held a Christmas Quiz Night in the County Room of the Colin Atkinson Pavilion. Turkey Curry and a bottle of wine was provided for each team to begin the evening. Several rounds of general knowledge, along with some spot prizes made for an entertaining night, with Milsted Langdon taking home the winners’ trophy!

2020 sees the introduction of a new entry level membership to the LBW Club. An Affiliate LBW Club Membership gives companies the opportunity to attend a minimum of four networking events hosted by SCCC, along with a handful of Long Room day passes and acknowledgement on our official website, without the Premium Long Room Membership. This has already generated much interest with several new sign ups before the turn of the year!

2019 was a fantastic year for our many hospitality guests. Our County Championship package proved more popular than ever, the vast majority of our boxes sold out on the first three days of our home fixtures, demonstrating that the appetite for the longer form of cricket is very much still here! We had some extraordinary opportunities for hospitality in 2019 at our World Cup matches with exclusive boxes and premium packages available in the Long Room. The Pakistan vs Australia match saw a sold-out Long Room host a unique atmosphere with fans of both nations cheering on their teams with a fabulous offering of food and drink!

Our T20s saw huge interest in our matchday packages, with companies and individuals taking advantage of our County Room packages, giving a much welcomed ‘air conditioned’ option for SCCC fans in the height of the summer! The Floodlit Friday packages were incredibly popular, with all hospitality facilities sold out on each of those nights!

2019 saw the reintroduction of Player Sponsorship, and was a great success. In total we had companies take out sponsorship for 16 of our professional squad. Having your brand associated with a Somerset Cricketer was too good to miss out on for these companies, who got the chance to rub shoulders with players in a package that included membership, social media connection, photo opportunities and a signed shirt plus much more! A significant number of players have already been snapped up for 2020, but a few high profile players are still available! We also have a Futures Player Sponsorship for those players about to break into the 1st XI, with yet another chance for companies to show their support for the future of SCCC.

Our fan village was a tremendous success in 2019. In its first full T20 season it provided a variety of dining and drinking options for our supporters and was truly the place to be before play started, as well as an ideal base camp for those with standing only tickets. In 2020 we are actively seeking a corporate sponsor to help brand this area to bring it to life even more. A wonderful opportunity for a company that would like to see their brand brought to life in a sporting arena!

New Sponsors

In 2019 we welcomed a number of new sponsors, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for supporting us throughout the season and into the future. The Appleby Westward Group, better known to SCCC Supporters as ‘SPAR’ became our Main T20 partner. Their brand received exposure around the ground, digitally and took pride of place on the front of our T20 Playing shirt, and will continue to do so in 2021. SPAR have been tremendously constructive to work with and we look forward to the partnership helping drive the T20 team onto success in the future.

Itec, the parent company of long standing sponsor Mailadoc, came on board as our official technology partner and helped us make huge strides in 2019. They were responsible for the implementation of our Ground-wide Wifi, which provided members, media and broadcasters with better connectivity than ever at the Cooper Associates County Ground. Their brand also looked beautiful on the back of our County Championship shirt.

Thank you to our existing and long standing partners for their continued support. Our pre-existing main club partners that continued to show their support for us in 2019:

St Austell Brewery

Cooper Associates

Somerset County Sports

A list of all the other much valued partners and advertisers can be found on our official website and viewing the Commercial Tab. Their continued support enables us to host fantastic days out here at the cricket in Taunton, and ensure the very best players in the Country and indeed the world, continue to entertain the crowds every summer whilst wearing the new-look Somerset Wyvern
