Tom Lammonby impresses again
Tom Lammonby hit an unbeaten 62 to help England Under 19s to a 112 run victory (D/L) over South Africa in the Tri Nation series in Potchefstroom on Sunday.
After being put into bat England Under 19s posted 289 for five from their 49 overs.
Tom Banton opened the innings but was dismissed for two with the score on 13 after which Savin Perera and Henry Brook helped to take the total onto 162.
At this point Lammonby walked to the wicket to join Perera and the pair took the total onto 209 when Perera was out for 84.
Fin Trenouth then joined his Somerset teammate and between them they added 57 in 7.1 overs when Fin was out for 29 off 22 balls.
Tom remained at the crease until the end of the innings by which time he had moved on to 62 off 53 balls.
Rain ended England’s innings on 289 for five with one of their 50 overs remaining.
Chasing a revised target of 279 off 44 overs, South Africa were all out for 166 if 37. 2 overs, Fin taking two catches and Lammonby and Banton one each.
England now only need to win one of their remaining two matches, against Namibia on Wednesday and South Africa 24 hours later, to secure a place in the Tri-Series final next Sunday.
After the match Fin said: “To get two wins has been an unreal feeling, and to have contributed to both those wins is exactly what I set out to do when coming out here. It’s been great to bat with Lammers, who I have only batted with on this tour so far. We have a good understanding of each other’s games and complement each other really well, so it’s nice we’re getting time at the crease together. Hopefully we can kick on from here, get another couple of wins and come home having won the tri-series.”
