Ukraine Dinner raises nearly £10,000

Somerset County Cricket Club recently hosted a special dinner to help raise money for those affected by the current situation in Ukraine.

The event took place at the Cooper Associates County Ground on Friday March 18th and was attended by over 100 guests, including Somerset CCC Head Coach, Jason Kerr and Club Captain Tom Abell.

The evening was hosted by SCCC legend Peter Trego and included:

  • Ukrainian themed food
  • A quiz
  • A magician
  • Auctions
  • A DJ
  • Live music and much more

The night began with an emotional speech from Irina Nagornaya, a Taunton resident who is originally from Ukraine, which received a standing ovation.

During the course of the evening, the generosity of those in attendance raised in excess of £9000. All profits from the evening will go directly to the Ukrainian Red Cross Crisis Appeal.

Following the success of the event, SCCC Conference & Events Sales Executive, Agne Seikyte, who helped to organise the evening said: “I can’t thank everyone enough for their support. What’s happening in Ukraine at the moment is something that no one should be forced to endure. Every day we are hearing news reports about further atrocities against innocent people, and it is so important that each of us does what we can to help.

“I have been genuinely amazed by the level of support that we have received over the last few weeks. The compassion and generosity that has been shown regarding this cause has been incredibly moving.

“Coming from Lithuania, this is a cause that is very close to my heart and is one that has affected my family and friends. We can’t stop the war, but with events like this and the generosity of those who have been involved, we can be of genuine benefit to those men, women and children whose lives have been torn apart by this conflict. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.”
