Update on recent staff changes at Somerset County Cricket Club

We would like to thank Members and supporters for your patience around the matter of staff changes at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

As a Club we want to keep you regularly informed with what is happening both on and off the field, but mindful of the Club policy not to comment on rumours and speculation, there are occasions, for numerous reasons, when we are unable to do this. We understand that a number of you may feel frustrated by the length of time it has taken between updates regarding these changes, but before commenting further, we need to be clear of our process moving forward.

We thank you for your patience and understanding in this regard.

Recruitment of new Chairperson and CEO

We are currently looking to embark on the process to select a new Chairperson to succeed Charles Clark following his sad passing earlier this year. The Chairperson will provide clear and strategic leadership and, alongside the CEO, present our aims and objectives to all our stakeholders.

The Chairperson will further be expected to develop the governance of the Club to ensure it is robust enough to meet the challenges and expectations of the environment in which we operate and to ensure we are able to take advantage of opportunities as they arise. This sets the context in which our CEO will lead the successful organisation and operation of what we are seeking to achieve on and off the pitch. It is therefore imperative that the new Chairperson has significant input into the final selection of the new CEO.

Therefore, the officers and General Committee of the Club will be undertaking the appointment of the Chairperson ahead of the recruitment of a new CEO.

Interim management structure

In the interim, Malcolm Derry will continue to work alongside the senior management and assist in delivering the day-to-day operational and planning processes at the Club during the close season.

The senior management team and all staff at Somerset County Cricket Club continue to excel and deliver what we believe is a ‘best in class’ service to all our Members and stakeholders. They all remain fully committed to the achievement of the Club’s goals.

Malcolm Derry said: “The Club is entirely engaged in producing a strong end to the year, and we can give comfort to Members that the fundamentals of the Club, including our financial health, remain good as we look to plan and invest for the 2020 season. Rest assured that the Club remains committed to operating at the summit of English cricket.”

We look forward to updating you in greater detail once we have embarked upon this period of change.
