Casual Scorers

Somerset County Cricket Club is looking for individuals with knowledge and understanding of scoring to support the fixture schedule for the 2021 season.

Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions the responsibility for scoring both the 1st XI and 2nd XI teams will be undertaken by two home scorers per team during the early part of season, April and May. This may well be something that remains in place for a longer period depending on when restrictions are eased by the Government.

We are therefore seeking to recruit a number of scorers able to support the 1st and 2nd XI scorers.

The key responsibilities will be to support the designated match scoring official for either the Somerset 1st or 2nd XI teams by:

  • Scoring the match electronically and in addition potentially on a paper based system
  • Supporting the relationship with the officials and the members of the visiting teams
  • Assist in the provision of the end of day’s play information to the Head Coach/Director of Cricket and the Communications Department, (in addition to ad-hoc player requests)
  • Assist in the provision of statistical information to the Head Coach/Director of Cricket as and when required.
  • Consistently develop and maintain a wide-ranging knowledge of the Laws of Cricket, in addition to current ECB and ICC match regulations and playing conditions

Whilst knowledge and demonstrable experience of paper-based and computer scoring is required, additional training and support to calculate and monitor over-rates in red-ball cricket and how to calculate DLS will be given. Should there be an interest in achieving the ECB ACO Level 2 qualification the club would be happy to consider supporting this.

This is a fixed term contract for the 2021 season and salary is a generous hourly rate dependent on skills and experience.

To express an interest or apply for this role please send an email (and CV if you have one) to recruitment@somersetcountycc.co.uk giving an outline of any relevant experience.

If you wish to discuss the role please call Clare Mellor, Head of HR on 07876 566677.

If you prefer, please post an application to Clare Mellor, Head of HR, Somerset County Cricket Club, Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 1JT.
