Background

Somerset County Cricket Club is one of eighteen professional First Class County Cricket Clubs in England & Wales.  It is a club deeply rooted in its community and one that offers huge reach regionally, nationally and internationally. The Cooper Associates County Ground is home to this highly successful club and as well as being a Centre of Excellence for cricket in the South-West, the venue hosts almost 50 days of cricket each year and delivers numerous conferences and events.  As a Club, we have bold ambitions both on and off the field, including the desire to inspire more people to participate in cricket and make the Cooper Associates County Ground a 365-day venue and the primary sporting and business destination in the region.

The Role – Principle Responsibilities and Tasks

Somerset County Cricket Club are recruiting for an experienced Venue Operations Manager to guarantee every person using and enjoying the Cooper Associates County Ground, experiences a safe and enjoyable visit.  The person in this role will by ensure its infrastructure and facilities are maintained to the highest standard in line with and ensuring all relevant health and safety policies and procedures are implemented accordingly.

Your role will have a prominent focus on Health and Safety, reviewing, updating and maintaining policies to meet the necessary regulations ensuring the Club’s compliance. You will work closely with a range of stakeholders, leading the relationship with the Club’s Safety Advisory Group, managing the Safety Management team and subsequent contracts as well as acting as the Event Safety Officer or Deputy on match days and large-scale events. You must be a friendly yet professional individual who can establish and manage effective working relationships.

You will play a key role in the management of the venue’s daily operations including the management and liaison with all contractors, working in collaboration with the commercial team on supplier agreements, and managing and monitoring financial budgets. Additionally, you will be the main point of contact for broadcasters covering match days and with the England and Wales Cricket Board facilities team, ensuring the management of applications through the investment management system, as well as organising all match day accreditation.

You will also be responsible for updating and maintaining the Club’s COVID-19 protocols in line with Government guidelines, whilst working closely with the Chief Executive to escalate any concerns or areas for consideration.

You will be representing SCCC at a high level, therefore your passion and enthusiasm for the smooth running of the Club’s operations is essential.

The Skills and Knowledge

 Essential criteria:

  • Demonstratable experience of Operational delivery in a venue.
  • A thorough understanding of Health & Safety requirements and regulations.
  • Excellent time management, organisational and decision-making skills.
  • Previous experience of managing a team and/or being part of a team responsible for delivering Events.
  • Experience in negotiating and implementing supplier agreements and relationship management.

Desirable criteria:

  • Operational experience gained in a sporting environment.
  • NVQ Level 4 in Spectator Safety/IOSH.
  • Health & Safety leadership experience.
  • Implemented COVID-19 protocols.
  • Managed financial budgets.
