VI team start the season with an impressive win
Somerset Visually Impaired cricket team got off to a successful start when they travelled to play Kent at Sevenoaks Vine CC in the BCEW National League and came away the winners by 174 runs.
New captain, England International, Ed Hossell led from the front and after Somerset were put in he helped add 82 before his opening partner Rob Crisp was out. The Somerset skipper then shared a second wicket partnership of 53 with Graham Glover and 105 with vice captain and wicket-keeper Heidi Linegar.
Somerset eventually ended their innings of 240 for two declared off 20 overs, by which time Ed Hossell was unbeaten on 184 off 78 balls with 28 fours and two sixes.
When Kent replied they were quickly reduced to 12 for four after which they were never really in the hunt.
The home side recovered slightly but were bowled out for 66 in 21.2 overs, Crisp was the pick of the bowlers, ending with four for 16 off 6.2 overs, while Hossell claimed two for four and Steve Cook took two for 22.
Chairman Adam White said: “This was a great victory with all of the team playing well, especially our new captain Ed Hossell.”
Somerset VI are next in action when they host Surrey this coming Saturday (April 28th) at Bishops Lydeard CC in the British Blind Sport Cup competition.Back to News
