Western Storm establish partnership with Taunton School

A new partnership has been established between Western Storm and Taunton School for the 2017 Kia Super League season.

The agreement will see Taunton School branding appear on the front of the 2017 Western Storm playing shirt whilst Western Storm will be offering a masterclass to bring skills and drills from the elite game to pupils at Taunton School. As well as giving students the chance to watch some high profile matches, pupils from Taunton School will also have the privilege of creating a Guard of Honour to welcome the Western Storm players to the pitch when they do battle with Loughborough Lightning at the Cooper Associates County Ground on August 12th.

Former Taunton School pupil and England cricketer Jodie Dibble is part of the Western Storm squad and has already had the chance to work with the pupils from Taunton Preparatory School. In addition, the Taunton School U15s Girls recently got through to the finals of the Lady Taverners cricket competition, beating Millfield and Wellington on the way but narrowly missing out on the top spot to King’s College. It is hoped that the link with Western Storm will inspire more girls to play cricket and build on current successes.

After losing out in the Kia Super League Final to Southern Vipers last year, The Storm will be looking to go one better in 2017.

There is an instant chance for revenge as the Storm and the Vipers meet again in the opening fixture of the competition and there is the added incentive of knowing that the match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports and BBC Radio.  The match against Loughborough Lightning on August 12th will also be shown live on Sky Sports.

Western Storm’s full fixtures are as follows:

  • Thursday 10 August– Southern Vipers v Western Storm – Ageas Bowl (Double-header with Hampshire v Glamorgan)
  • Saturday 12 August– Western Storm v Loughborough Lightning – Cooper Associates County Ground (Double-header with Somerset v Kent Spitfires)
  • Sunday 20 August– Yorkshire Diamonds v Western Storm – York CC

Interest in the women’s game is at an all-time with the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup reaching its conclusion this weekend. Both Taunton and Bristol have played host to several matches in the tournament so far and England, who are led by Western Storm Captain Heather Knight, have qualified for the Final at Lord’s which is set to be a sellout.

As well as this exciting partnership being announced, Western Storm can also confirm that two holiday activities called “Be a Little Stormer Girls Camp” will be held in Truro, Exeter, Taunton and Bristol during August which will undoubtedly inspire future generations to play the game.
