2022 Vitality Blast Preview: Somerset v Essex Eagles


Somerset welcome Essex Eagles to the Cooper Associates County Ground in the Vitality Blast tomorrow (Sunday May 29th).

Play will get underway at 4pm.

This match is part of a double header and will see Western Storm take on Sunrisers in the Charlotte Edwards Cup at 11am.

Gates will open at 10am.

There are a limited number of tickets still available for this fixture.




Ticket buyers can print and download their online tickets via their SCCC account.

All ticket or Membership collections will be from the Jack White Gates (St James Street).

The Club Enquiries Desk will be based in the Reception of the Marcus Trescothick Pavilion and not in the Andrew Caddick Pavilion on matchdays.

The two sides have faced each other on 15 occasions in T20 cricket. Somerset have won seven times, Essex have come out on top on six occasions and two matches have been abandoned.

The highest team total in the series for Somerset is 225 for two at Chelmsford in 2011, while for Essex it is 209 for five at Bath in 2011.

The highest individual innings for Somerset is the 108 not out by Marcus Trescothick at Chelmsford in 2011, while for Essex it is 105 by Ravi Bopara at Chelmsford in 2010.

The best bowling for Somerset is five for 32 by Roelof van der Merwe at Chelmsford in 2019, while for Essex it is four for 22 by Timothy Phillips at Bath in 2011.


Somerset will be without Jack Leach and Craig Overton who are both on international duty.

The Club have named the following squad for the match: Tom Abell (c), Tom Banton, George Bartlett, Jack Brooks, Josh Davey, Marchant de Lange, Lewis Goldsworthy, Ben Green, Lewis Gregory, Tom Lammonby, Rilee Rossouw, Will Smeed and Roelof van der Merwe.


In the build up to the match, Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “We made a fantastic start to the competition at Kent on Wednesday night and that gives the guys huge confidence going into this game against Essex. To be back at home for the Blast in front of a full house is incredibly exciting and the guys are looking forward to it immensely.

“Essex have got some incredibly talented players and they’ve recruited well. Daniel Sams had a fantastic Big Bash and has played in the latter stages of the IPL, but we’ve got an incredibly strong unit too. We respect the opposition but we don’t fear them.”

This area is therefore not available for use during this match.
