2022 Vitality Blast Preview: Somerset v Gloucestershire


Somerset take on Gloucestershire at the Cooper Associates County Ground in the Vitality Blast tomorrow (Friday June 17th).

Somerset are currently second in the South Group table with 10 points from seven games, whilst Gloucestershire are fourth with nine points from eight matches.

Play will get underway at 6:30pm.

Gates will open at 4:30pm.

Tickets for this match are sold out but you can still see the action with one of our special hospitality offerings!



Ticket buyers can print and download their online tickets via their SCCC account.

All ticket or Membership collections will be from the Jack White Gates (St James Street).

The Club Enquiries Desk will be based in the Reception of the Marcus Trescothick Pavilion and not in the Andrew Caddick Pavilion on matchdays.

Somerset have faced Gloucestershire on 39 occasions in T20 cricket.

Somerset have won 16 of the matches, Gloucestershire have come out on top 14 times, seven games have been abandoned and there have been two no results.

Somerset’s highest total in the series is 250 for three at Taunton in 2006 and for Gloucestershire it is 227 for four at Bristol in the same year.

The highest individual innings for Somerset is 116 not out by Cameron White at Taunton in 2006 and for Gloucestershire it is 101 by Michael Klinger at Taunton in 2016.

The best bowling for Somerset is five for 24 by Lewis Gregory at Bristol in 2021 while for Gloucestershire it is four for 16 by Jack Taylor at Bristol in 2011.

The two sides met earlier this month in the competition at the Seat Unique Stadium, Bristol. The dramatic encounter saw Somerset come out on top by three wickets.

The match was reduced to 10 overs per side due to rain and Gloucestershire posted a total of 101 for five.

Chasing a revised target of 112 for victory, Somerset slipped to 55 for seven after six overs. However, a sensational innings from Roelof van der Merwe turned the tide of the match.

The Netherlands international blitzed his way to 48 from just 15 balls to see Somerset to an stunning victory with three balls to spare.


Somerset will be without Craig Overton and Josh Davey (concussion protocol) so Kasey Aldridge has been added to the squad.

Somerset have named the following 14: Tom Abell (c), Kasey Aldridge, Tom Banton, George Bartlett, Jack Brooks, Marchant de Lange, Lewis Goldsworthy, Ben Green, Lewis Gregory, Tom Lammonby, Rilee Rossouw, Peter Siddle, Will Smeed and Roelof van der Merwe.


Ahead of the match, Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “We’re playing some really good cricket in the Blast this year and we’re all looking forward to taking on the local rivals at a sold out Cooper Associates County Ground.

“Gloucestershire are on a bit of a roll as well, so we’re expecting a very competitive game.

“It’ll be a packed house and the weather is set fair. It doesn’t get any better than that!”
