2022 Vitality Blast Preview: Somerset v Surrey


Somerset take on Surrey at the Cooper Associates County Ground in the Vitality Blast tomorrow (Sunday July 3rd).

Somerset are currently second in the South Group with 18 points from 13 matches, whilst Surrey are top with 21 points from the same number of matches.

Somerset will secure a home quarter-final if:

  • Somerset beat Surrey on Sunday
  • Somerset tie against Surrey and Essex lose or tie against Glamorgan tonight
  • Somerset lose against Surrey, Essex lose against Glamorgan tonight and Hampshire don’t win and overturn a significant NRR swing

Play will get underway at 6:30pm.

Gates will open at 4:30pm.

A limited number of tickets are available for this match and we also have a number of special hospitality offerings!

All ticket or Membership collections will be from the Jack White Gates (St James Street).

The Club Enquiries Desk will be based in the Reception of the Marcus Trescothick Pavilion and not in the Andrew Caddick Pavilion on matchdays.

The highest individual innings for Somerset is the 86 not out by Johann Myburgh at Taunton in 2016, while for Surrey it is 122 not out by Jason Roy at the Oval in 2015.

The best bowling for Somerset is four for 24 by Jamie Overton at the Cooper Associates County Ground in 2018, while for Surrey it is four for 25 by Imran Tahir at the Oval in 2019.


Somerset are without Jack Leach (international duty) and Sonny Baker (Back).

Head Coach, Jason Kerr has named the following squad: Tom Abell (c), Tom Banton, George Bartlett, Jack Brooks, Josh Davey, Lewis Goldsworthy, Ben Green, Lewis Gregory, Tom Lammonby, Craig Overton, Rilee Rossouw, Peter Siddle, Will Smeed and Roelof van der Merwe.


Ahead of the game, Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “I thought we were outstanding with the ball against Middlesex last night. We had a bit of a stumble with the bat but Craig Overton gave us that impetus and Josh Davey showed immense composure under pressure to get us over the line.

“It’s a good sign when your winning games without playing at your best. In some respects, the pressure’s off because the first goal was to qualify for the quarter-final and we’ve achieved that. They guys can now go out there tomorrow and really express themselves.

“The aim is to get a home quarter-final and hopefully we can do that and experience again what a great occasion that will be at Taunton.”

Construction work is nearing completion on Gimblett’s Hill.

The project has been undertaken in order to improve accessibility on matchdays, while retaining the history and character of one of the most popular parts of the Cooper Associates County Ground.

This area will be available during this match, ahead of it’s official opening next week. Priority will be given to those Members and supporters with additional needs.


Don’t forget that our ground-wide Wi-Fi network is fully operational.

The Wi-Fi is completely free of charge and to connect all you have to do is select the option: “_WeAreSomerset” in your settings and enter a valid email address.

You can also update your preferences or unsubscribe at any time.

With the new Wi-Fi you can browse the internet around the Cooper Associates County Ground. This means, for example, that our matchday live stream can be accessed without using your data, meaning instant replays of all the action on the field are available at no extra cost to you.


During each home Vitality Blast match in 2022, Trade Nation will be donating £50 for every six that is hit and £150 for every ball that is hit out of the ground!
