Best figures for Roelof in dramatic finish

Roelof van der Merwe and Paul van Meekeren starred in a tense encounter in the second bilateral IT20 series match between The Netherlands and Zimbabwe this week.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, The Netherlands scored 152 for eight on a dry wicket. Maxwell O’Dowd top scored with 56 from 40 balls.

Chasing 153 for victory, Zimbabwe looked set to claim a first win of the tour, but they were all out for 152 in dramatic fashion. Paul impressed with the ball and bowled superbly to take three wickets for just 25 runs from his four overs.

Roelof was thrown the ball for the final over with Zimbabwe needing 13 for victory.

The visitors claimed 12 runs from the first two balls, but the Somerset all-rounder held his nerve, claiming two wickets with the fourth and fifth balls of the over before securing a dramatic run out from the last ball to ensure the game ended in a tie. Roelof finished with four for 35, his best figures in IT20s.

This meant that the match came down to the drama of a super over.

Unfortunately for the Somerset pair, Zimbabwe eventually came out on top to secure their maiden victory of the tour of the Netherlands and Ireland.
