Contract extension for Tom

Somerset County Cricket Club can today exclusively reveal that Tom Lammonby has signed a contract extension.

The 19-year-old, whose current contract wasn’t due to expire until 2020, has put pen to paper on a one-year extension which will see him remain at the Cooper Associates County Ground until at least the end of the 2021 campaign.

After playing his way through the Devon age groups, he joined the Somerset Academy in the autumn of 2015 and went on to sign his first professional contract after finishing his A-levels in 2018.

The left-handed batsman, who also bowls left-arm medium pace, has captained England at Under 19 level and made his Somerset debut this season in the Vitality Blast at Kent Spitfires in July this year. He went on to feature in a total of 12 matches in the competition, scoring 88 runs with a best of 31 at a strike rate of 139.68. He also claimed eight wickets and took five catches in what was an impressive debut season.

His performances in 2019 earned him the Tom Pearce Award for the Young Player of the Year at the annual End of Season Awards Dinner.

After signing his extension, Tom said: “This is a proud moment for me and to extend my contract with Somerset is a dream come true. I’ve really enjoyed my first year and I’m excited to see what the next few years hold.

“The thing that stood out most for me was the first home game. Just being here and playing in front of the home crowd and having some family and friends in the ground was probably the best moment for me this summer.

“The supporters are amazing and really get behind us. Some of the crowds have been incredible this year and the atmosphere has been electric. I know that all the players are really grateful for the support that we get.”

Somerset Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry said: “Tom is an extremely talented cricketer with a very high ceiling who has a very bright future ahead of him.

“He has made some excellent progress over this summer since progressing from the Academy last year, which earnt him his First XI debut during the Vitality Blast. He gave an excellent account of himself and will have taken a huge amount from the experience.

“We are looking forward to working with him and seeing him develop for many years to come.”
