Devon fixture cancelled

Unfortunately, we are sorry to announce that next week’s National County fixture against Devon on July 22nd has been cancelled.

The match was due to be the first 50-over clash between the two sides since 2007, but due to a number of unforeseen circumstances, the game will now not be taking place.

Devon County Cricket Club Chairman, Neil Gamble said. “It is with great regret that owing to a number of uncontrollable circumstances, we will not be in a position to fulfil this marquee fixture that was rearranged to be staged at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

“We very much appreciate the opportunity that was offered to our players and loyal Devon followers but, unfortunately, it is not possible to fulfil the fixture.

“Of all the National County v First Class County showcase games set for next week in different parts of the country, several have had to be cancelled for the similar reasons. It is with great reluctance that we have jointly made this decision and we hope that two counties with such a special bond can face each other on the field again in the near future.”

Somerset Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry said: “It goes without saying that we are all disappointed that this fixture will not take place. The chance to see the very best talent that both counties have to offer in front of spectators at the Cooper Associates County Ground was something that players, staff, Members and supporters alike were all eagerly anticipating.

“We value our relationship with Devon CCC extremely highly and we look forward to continuing to work closely with them, and also our other National County partners, in order to ensure that we continue to help the South West’s best players flourish. I sincerely hope that we can schedule a similar fixture soon.”
