Dom thrilled by England selection
Dom Bess is understandably delighted by his inclusion in the England Squad for the two match Test series against Pakistan.
The 20-year-old has been selected in the 12-man party and was over the moon to receive the call from National Selector, Ed Smith.
“I can’t quite believe it to be honest,” he said. “I didn’t actually think that I would get the call but as you can imagine, I’m extremely happy. I didn’t give it any thought last night because I was pretty tired after a long day in the field. I assumed that they would have called last night if they were going to call, so I didn’t really think about it this morning.”
“I got the call whilst I was shopping for furniture with my girlfriend. We were discussing sofas at the time. My phone rang but I didn’t recognise the number. Luckily I decided to pick it up!
“This has come around very quickly but I’d like to think that I can go in to it and not be phased at all. These moments don’t come around often. If I do get the chance to play, it would be an unbelievable honour. It would be an amazing achievement and it would be great for Somerset, Devon Cricket, Sidmouth and Exeter Cricket who have always helped me. I’m smiling now just thinking about it.
“I’m absolutely gutted for Leachy because we’re obviously really close.”
Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “Everyone connected to the Club is thrilled for Dom. He has achieved a tremendous amount in a short space of time and we have all been extremely impressed by how he has conducted himself both on and off the field.”
“As a Club we’re are delighted that our young players are beginning to get recognition at the very highest level. To have Dom joining the likes of Craig Overton and Jack Leach in England Test squads just goes to show that the pathways in the South West are helping to produce cricketers for the very highest level of the game.
“Whilst this is great news for Dom, we are all obviously disappointed for Jack. He showed exactly what he is capable of in New Zealand and there is no doubt that he will be back doing what he does best and challenging for a Test place as soon as he is fit. I know that Dom is very excited about this opportunity and we all hope that he gets the chance to showcase his skills against Pakistan.”Back to News
