Impressive Craig can't prevent disappointing day for England

Despite Craig Overton’s defiant resistance, England were bowled out for just 58 on day one of the first Test against New Zealand in Auckland.

England were staring down the barrel of their lowest ever Test total when Craig came to the crease at 23 for seven, but the Somerset all-rounder took the attack to the home bowlers.

The 23-year-old helped himself to five fours and a six on his way to top scoring with 33 not out from just 25 balls.

Craig’s score of 33 not out in England’s total of 58 constituted 56.89% of his teams runs which is the 6th ever highest percentage of runs in a Test for England.

Elsewhere Dom Bess was also in good form in the North v South series in Barbados.

The Somerset spinner took two for 47 from his ten overs but couldn’t prevent the South from falling to a 46 run defeat.

Batting first after being put in, the North made 335 for eight thanks to Joe Clarke (71) and Brett D’Oliveira (79).

Despite 109 from Nick Gubbins, the South were dismissed for 289 to give the North victory at the fifth attempt to take the series to a decider on Friday.
