Injury blow for Paul

Somerset fast bowler Paul van Meekeren is facing a spell on the sidelines.

The Netherlands International has picked up a groin injury that will keep him out of action for several weeks.

SCCC Head of Science & Medicine, Jamie Thorpe explains the details of Paul’s injury. “Paul has been managing a groin issue through the early part of the season,” he said. “An MRI has now confirmed a stress injury to the region.

“Paul has been placed on a rehabilitation and management programme which has been designed to ensure that we give him the best chance of a full recovery as well as enabling him to return to competitive cricket as soon as possible. We are estimating Paul will return in approximately six to eight weeks.”

Paul joined Somerset in July 2016 and made his First Class debut shortly afterwards against Pakistan. He made an immediate impression, taking three for 78 in the visitors first innings. Paul went on to make his T20 and List-A debuts for the Club that year.

Since joining the County, he has also become heavily involved the Club’s Community Engagement work.

The 26-year-old has featured in 25 IT20s and four ODIs for the Netherlands.
