Injury Update: Lewis Gregory

Lewis Gregory has been missing from the Somerset line up for the last few games with a back injury. This morning director of cricket Matt Maynard gave us the following update on the injury to the all rounder.

“Lewis had an injection into the site of the stress fracture in his back on Monday, that we are hoping will take away his discomfort and pain and allow him to continue bowling.

“The specialist has said that Lewis won’t do himself anymore damage by bowling because the fracture in his back is already there and wont get any worse.

“However he will need an operation at some stage, but we are obviously hoping that the injections will enable him to bowl pain free this summer, but if this is not the case then we will have go down the surgical route, which will happen at the end of the season anyway because he needs a pin put in place.

“The specialist who will is dealing with Lewis has undertaken 65 of these operations, 22 of which have been on professional sports people none of who have suffered a recurrence of their injury.

Matt added: “This is a positive sign for Lewis’ long term fitness and we are hoping in the short term that the injections will allow him to resume bowling on Friday and we need to try to get his overs up so he comes into contention for selection against Hampshire next week.”
