Jack helps England to historic Test win
Jack Leach played a vital role as England claimed their first victory at Galle.
Jack claimed two for 41 in Sri Lanka’s first innings and three for 60 in their second as England triumphed by 211 runs to win the opening Test of the three-match series.
The win was England’s first in an overseas Test since October 2016.
After the match a delighted Jack said: “It’s a really good feeling and probably the best feeling I’ve had in cricket. To contribute to England winning a Test match is very special and I’m very proud. It’s great to have the shirt and cap on and to win here is great. It’s just amazing.”
“I try to be patient in my cricket and in my life and you often have to wait for the good things. I was always going to work as hard as I can to get back in the England set up. I had a taste of it in New Zealand and I loved every minute of it. It was certainly something that I wanted to experience again.
“I felt relaxed all through the match. Mo and Rash really helped me with that. They’re great to work with. I think we complement each other really well. It’s been great to bowl with those guys and we’ve been helping each other.
“It was great that I got the ball in my hand early but it wasn’t easy. We had to stay patient and grind away.
“To be out there with Jos again is something that I’m very proud about. He’s one of my best mates and I’ve known him since we were 10-years-old. We played together for the Somerset Under 11s so to be back out there with him was great. I think I looked right at him every time I took a wicket and his face was a picture!”
