Jack signs contract extension

Somerset County Cricket Club can today confirm that Jack Brooks has signed a one-year contract extension.

The fast bowler’s deal was due to expire at the end of the 2022 season, but he has agreed terms on a 12-month extension.

After impressing for Surrey Second XI and Oxfordshire in the Minor Counties competition, Jack made his First Class debut for Northamptonshire in 2009 against Australia. He signed for Somerset ahead of the 2019 season and has taken 85 wickets across the three formats of the game.

He has also played a leading role in the Club’s Community Engagement Programme since his arrival at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

After signing his contract extension, Jack said: “I’m delighted. I’ve put a lot of physical and emotional energy into my cricket over the last 12 months, and I feel like this summer I’ve been able to showcase what I’m about again after recovering from my injuries. I feel like I’m having an impact on games and am really looking forward to doing it again next year.

“I think we’ve unfinished business as a team. There is a very competitive squad which is one of the reasons I was desperate to stay. We push each other on, and the aim is very much to compete for trophies.

“I’ve had no end of backing from the Somerset Members and supporters over the last few years. I’d like to think I’ve had an affinity with the fans and loved the Warwickshire game earlier this year in particular when they were cheering me on as we pushed for victory.

“I would particularly like to thank the Somerset Science & Medicine Team; Jamie, Joel, Chris and James, who worked so hard with me during my rehab.”

Somerset Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry said: “It’s been great to observe Jack’s determination over the last year to get back to playing First Team cricket. Having a bowler of Jack’s experience and quality on the staff adds to the depth we will need to compete for trophies across the formats in 2023.

“He still demonstrates a huge hunger and desire to win and develop, and everyone has observed this year how much it means to him when he impacts results with his performances with the ball.”
