Jack's West Indies Diary: Part One
Jack Leach is currently in the West Indies preparing for England’s Test series.
He will be keeping Somerset supporters up to date with what’s going on behind the scenes in his exclusive Tour Diary.
Here is part one:
“It’s been a busy week for us. First of all we had two days of training just to get us used to how things are over here and then it was four days of warm-up games. It’s all gone pretty well and we’ve all experienced some time in the middle.
“The conditions are different to how they were in Sri Lanka and it’s been good to get used to that. We’re using the Duke balls on this tour, so the seamers are enjoying that. I think there will be a lot more in the pitches out here for all of the bowlers than there was in Sri Lanka, which suited the spinners.
“Although we’ve played a couple of games now, we’re expecting the conditions for the Tests to be a bit different to what we’ve experienced so far.
“Everyone’s pretty chilled out over here and no one’s in a rush to do anything. The people are lovely and it’s a beautiful island. I’m really enjoying the way of life out here. I went for a run this morning along the beach and that was amazing.
“Tomorrow we will be going out on a boat to look at the west coast of the island. We’ve got a gym session the following day and then we have an event at the high commission to mark the start of the series. After that, it’s back in to training at the start of the week as we build up to the start of the first Test.
“Since I’ve been out here I’ve spoken to friends, family and my girlfriend a few times. Some of them are coming out whilst we’re over here, so that’ll be good and I’m looking forward to seeing them.
“It’s a great place to play cricket and I can’t wait for the series to start.”
