Kasey joins the playing staff

Somerset County Cricket Club are delighted to be able to announce that Kasey Aldridge has signed a two-year contract with the Club.

The 18-year-old fast bowler, who is also a more than useful middle order batsman, joined the Somerset Academy in 2018 after spending two years on the Potential Player Programme.

Kasey, who was educated at Millfield and progressed through the Somerset CCC Age Group Pathway, has impressed this summer with several fine performances for the Somerset Second XI and also for the England Under 19s.

Somerset Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry is excited that Kasey has joined the professional staff. “Kasey is a real talent,” he said. “He’s tall, he bowls with genuine pace and is capable of generating lateral movement in the air and off the pitch.

“The way he handled the step up from the Academy to the Second XI has also been very impressive. He also took the pressure of International cricket in his stride and his performances for the England Under 19s this summer would have provided him another level of experience.

“We all hope that he can continue on his current path and turn the outstanding potential he has shown into performances for the First XI when given the opportunity.”

After signing his first professional contract, Kasey said: “It’s an unbelievable feeling to sign a contract for the Club. It’s a bit of a cliché but it really is a dream come true.

“I feel really fortunate to have been given this opportunity, and it gives me some confidence to know that all the hard work that myself and all of the coaches have put in has been rewarded. Hopefully I can push on now with the pros around me and learn as much as I can from them. I’m just looking to learn now and then hopefully I can push for a First Team place. It would be unbelievable if I could get to do that.”

Millfield School Director of Cricket Coaching, Mark Garraway said: “Kasey has always had the potential to bowl fast and hit the ball hard, and over the past seven years everyone here has worked together to help build Kasey’s confidence to commit to each delivery.

“It’s been great to work collaboratively with Somerset CCC’s Academy to sharpen Kasey’s development over last two years, and everyone associated with Millfield wishes him the very best for the future.”
