There are now less than one month to go until our opening LV= Insurance County Championship fixture!

Thursday April 8th will see Somerset begin the first day of the season against Middlesex at Lord’s.

The two sides have played each other 163 times in First Class cricket. Somerset have won 25 occasions, Middlesex have come out on top 85 times whilst 53 matches have ended as a draw.

Somerset’s highest score in the series is 850 for seven declared at Taunton in 2007 whilst Middlesex amassed 600 for four declared in the same fixture.

The highest individual innings for Somerset is 315 by Justin Langer at Taunton in 2007 and for Middlesex it is 258 by Mike Gatting at Bath in 1984.

The best bowling performance for Somerset against Middlesex in First Class cricket is by Raymond Robertson-Glasgow who claimed nine for 38 at Lord’s in 1924. For Middlesex it is Albert Trott who claimed 10 for 42 against Somerset at Taunton in 1900.

The last time the two sides met at Lord’s in red-ball cricket was in 2017.

Although the match ended in a draw, it was a game to remember for Lewis Gregory.

The England all rounder scored his maiden First Class century when he amassed 137 in Somerset’s first innings. There was also an impressive 158 from Somerset opener Dean Elgar.

After narrowly missing out on the coveted County Championship title at the very final hurdle in the last two years, Somerset will be looking to make a strong start in 2021.
