Marcus nearly ready to return to action

Marcus Trescothick is expected to return to action for Somerset in a Second XI Championship match with Sussex at Taunton Vale, starting tomorrow (Wednesday).

Marcus has not played since suffering a broken metatarsal batting in the Specsavers County Championship match against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford in early May.

Teams are allowed to name 12 players for Second XI Championship games and the original plan was for Trescothick to spend some time in the field against Sussex, without batting. However, Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “Marcus has made excellent progress with his rehab and we now hope he will have the opportunity to make some runs in the match.

“It will depend on how he feels when the time arrives. Whatever happens, as things stand he has a very good chance of being available for selection to face Worcestershire later this month.”
