Overseas Update

Our players who are spending the winter away from Taunton have continued to catch the eye.

Here’s the latest installment of how they are getting on.

EDDIE BYROM

It’s been another good week for Eddie Byrom in Australia.

The 22-year-old helped Fremantle to the Premier T20 title at the WACA last weekend and has now made headlines again.

The left hander made a stunning 135 from just 76 balls for Fremantle in their First Grade match against Scarborough. His innings included 12 fours and seven sixes and helped his side to 369 for three from 50 overs. In reply, Scarborough were dismissed for 278 from 47 overs.

TOM BANTON

Tom Banton played an important role for England as they claimed victory in the third and final ODI against South Africa on Sunday.

The 21-year-old made a run-a-ball 32 and shared a 70-run partnership with Joe Denly for the fifth wicket as England chased down 257 to win the match and level the series. Tom was also involved in the important run out of JJ Smuts.

LEWIS GREGORY

Lewis Gregory  has once again been in good form for England Lions.

He captained his side to victory in the latest unofficial ODI against New South Wales XI. Leading from the front he scored 55 runs from just 34 balls as England Lions posted a total of 293 for nine from their 50 overs. He also claimed two for 17 from 5.1 overs as his side won by 52 runs.

After the game Lewis said: “We’re delighted to go unbeaten through the one-day leg of the tour with three excellent wins and some very good performances throughout the squad.

“What was especially pleasing about the win today was the number of players who stepped up to put in telling performances. All eleven players put in good shifts with bat, ball or in the field, which made us very hard to beat.

“We’re looking forward to shifting our attention to red-ball cricket now, with the performances from these last few weeks spurring us on for more success.”

Lewis has also been selected to play in the HBL Pakistan Super League.

Lewis will join up with Somerset teammate Tom Banton at Peshawar Zalmi after he was selected to replace Dwaine Pretorius for the duration of the competition which runs from February 20th to March 22nd.
