Recognition for Adam Hose

Somerset’s Adam Hose has been named as the Second XI Player Of The Year and his picture appears on the cover of the 2017 First Class Counties Second XI Annual.

Last season the 24 year old scored the most runs in the Second XI Championship, amassing 644 in his eight matches at an average of 53.66, which also included two unbeaten centuries in the same match, 118* and 120* against Essex at Halstead.

When he heard the news on Friday morning Adam said: “It’s nice to get some recognition, although I didn’t know anything about this!  It’s a real surprise for me.  Last season went alright for me, although I maybe didn’t do quite as well in the first team games that I played.  As long as I keep doing what I can in the second team and asking the right questions then hopefully it will put me in the right place when it comes to selection.”

Adam prepared for the current season by spending the whole of the winter playing grade cricket in Adelaide, about which he said :” I had a great time playing with Kensington Cricket Club who are just fantastic.  They’ve got great facilities and are a really good bunch of boys.  We played some good cricket through their season and hopefully I can go back next season.”

The top order right hander has enjoyed a successful time with the bat in the one-day warm up games that he has played in this week, about which he said: “I’m very happy with how I’m hitting the ball at the moment.  I’m just trying to do the simple things well and hopefully the rest takes care of itself.

“This is an important year for me but I don’t want to try and get too far ahead of myself.  It’s about playing each ball and taking every day as it comes.  Hopefully things will work out the way that I want them to.  There’s certainly a lot of talent in the Somerset squad, especially in the batting and there are some high class players in that top order so it’s going to be tough.  I’m just going to concentrate, control the controllables and do what I can do.”
