Roelof receives his County Cap

A special presentation took place during the lunch interval of day three of Somerset’s Specsavers County Championship match against Surrey at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

The ceremony saw Roelof van der Merwe receive his County Cap from former Somerset Captain, Roy Kerslake in front of the playing staff.

After accepting his cap Roelof said: “I’m really pleased. It’s great to join such an elite group of players and it’s always nice to be recognised for what you do.

“It’s an awesome feeling to be on the same list as the likes of Viv Richards and the other greats that have played for the Club. It’s a privilege and a real honour to have been awarded this cap. Hopefully I can contribute some more to the Club and hopefully bring home a trophy.”

Roelof was joined by his wife for the ceremony about which he said: “It was great to have my wife here today and I thank her for all the support she has given me. She’s made a lot of sacrifices so that I can be in this position and I’m very thankful for that.”
