SCCC confirm overseas pre-season tour

Somerset County Cricket Club will be heading overseas for the final element of this year’s pre-season programme.

The squad will be heading to Abu Dhabi in March for some outdoor training and some competitive games as Head Coach, Jason Kerr explains.

“We are incredibly fortunate to be able to announce that we are heading to Abu Dhabi for two weeks in early March. We’ve been in the same environment for almost two years now and the winters have merged into the summers and we’ve had to spend an awful lot of time practicing and training indoors.

“We’re very grateful to have had the opportunity to play cricket over the last two seasons and we are certainly not taking that for granted. However, I think the chance to get away and have some warm weather training will be beneficial both physically and mentally.

“The weather over there means that we are guaranteed time in the middle and overs in the bowlers. It will enable us to get the necessary match sharpness that we will need ahead of what promises to be an exciting summer. We also need to make sure that the guys are in a good place mentally. They’ve worked incredibly hard throughout the winter and there’s a real air of anticipation ahead of the season.

“We will all be adhering to the strict protocols that are in place for international travel and everyone will be sticking firmly to the rules and looking out for each other.

“As well as training we will be playing some T20 cricket and red-ball cricket against another First Class County and we will return in time for the pre-season game against Glamorgan. Hopefully, this preparation will mean that we are in a great position to hit the ground running come the start of the season.”
