Somerset Trio Prepare for U19 World Cup
Three of Somerset’s young players are currently out in South Africa preparing for the 2020 Under 19 World Cup.
Kasey Aldridge, Lewis Goldsworthy and Sam Young are all part of the 15 man England squad that will be playing in Group B where they will play against Australia, West Indies and Nigeria.
England’s World Cup campaign gets underway on 20 January 2020 against West Indies in Kimberley.
Before that however England Under 19s will play two warm up games, starting with a match against Zimbabwe on Sunday 12th January at Pretoria starting at 8am.
England then travel to Hammanskral to face Afghanistan on 14th January, also starting at 8am.
Talking from South Africa batsman Sam Young said on Saturday morning: ” I’m looking forward to the first warm up match vs Zimbabwe. We’ve been out here for a week already training and I feel well prepared to perform well in the upcoming matches. The team is in a great place at the moment and we are ready to start the World Cup!”
Looking ahead to the series England Under 19 head coach Jon Lewis said: “I’m excited to see what this squad can do at the World Cup. It will be a great challenge for them both on and off the field, playing in unfamiliar conditions against new opposition in matches that will be televised around the world.”
