Somerset v Worcestershire: Three-Day Pre-Season Match

THE MATCH

Somerset welcome Worcestershire to the Cooper Associates County Ground tomorrow (Monday) for a three-day pre-season friendly match which is due to get underway at 11am.

HEAD TO HEAD

The last time the two sides met in First Class cricket was in last season’s Bob Willis Trophy at Blackfinch New Road, a match that Somerset won by 60 runs.

After winning the toss and electing to bat Somerset posted a first innings total of 251. Tom Abell top scored with 59.

In reply the hosts were dismissed for 200 as Craig Overton and Josh Davey both claimed three wickets.

Batting for a second time, Somerset were all out for 193. Tom Lammonby was the star performer for the visitors, scoring a sublime 107 not out and carrying his bat.

Needing 245 for victory, Worcestershire were all out for 184. Davey again impressed with the ball by taking three for 16.

Head Coach, Jason Kerr has named the following 13-man squad: Tom Abell (c), Sonny Baker, Jamie Baird, Tom Banton, Jack Brooks, Eddie Byrom, Josh Davey, Lewis Goldsworthy, Lewis Gregory, Ned Leonard, Will Smeed, Roelof van der Merwe and Sam Young.

On the eve of the fixture, Club Captain, Tom Abell said: “The progress amongst the group over the first few pre-season games has been clear to see, and we are looking forward to taking that on further this week.

“It’s great to welcome Lewis back and to see a couple of the guys returning from injuries at the right time with a view to the first game.

“We are equally looking forward to having Jamie Baird and Sonny Baker in the side. They have been brilliant around the group through pre-season, so it’s an exciting opportunity for those guys.

“We are certainly looking forward to the next three days against a good Worcester side as we start to hone our skills ahead of the season.”
