Steve raring to go
Somerset’s Steve Davies is excited by the new challenge that is facing him and can’t wait to get the new season underway with his new club.
The 30 year wicket-keeper batsman, who was signed from Surrey at the end of last year, has been training with his new team mates since January about which he said: “It’s been a lot of fun although it has taken a little while to get used to things. Now I’m finding my feet and I’m really enjoying everything.”
“Where I’m living is a bit out in the sticks and nothing like London, so it does take a little bit of adjusting, but I m starting to enjoy it. I’m really enjoying the company in the dressing room at Somerset. It’s nice to meet new people but I feel very much part of it already.”
“The four months that I’ve been here have flown by and I’m really excited by my new challenge. I can’t wait to play my first Specsavers County Championship game for Somerset here in Taunton.”
How will Steve feel walking out onto the ground in front of the Somerset crowd? “I guess that I’m going to be pretty nervous,” he said. “I want to do well for the Club, but hopefully I will get a lot of support from the fans which I’m really looking forward to. This is a great opportunity for me, and a really exciting challenge.”
Where does Steve see himself fitting into the Somerset side? “Id like to think that I’ll be batting in the middle order in four-day cricket and hopefully opening in the one-day game, which is what I’d like to do so fingers crossed I get the nod for that.”
He added: “The wicket here, judging by last year, can be pretty tough with the spinning wickets so I don’t like to give myself too many targets. I just like to go out and play each game as it comes and try to do my best.”Back to News
