Tim Delighted with First Half Century

Tim Rouse was a happy man when we spoke to him yesterday evening when he had made 69 in only his second County Championship innings for Somerset, during which he added 144 with James Hildreth.

“I am very happy to have made 69 today and to help get Somerset into a good position,” he said. “It was nice to have a sit down for a little while before I went in. I didn’t feel as nervous as I did on the first day and went out there and just did the same things that I have been doing recently. I played to get myself in which I managed to do and then I kicked on a bit which felt good.

“I thoroughly enjoyed being out in the middle and it was great batting with Hildy. He is a very calming influence and has a brilliant career behind him. He knows what he is doing so it was nice to bat with him. I batted briefly against Pakistan with him last year. He is very easy to bat with. It was good fun and nice to be able to do well for the team and put us into a good position to win the game.

“I think what we do on day four will very much depend on how much cricket we are likely to be able to play. Obviously our aim is to win the game so I am guessing we will assess in the morning. It was a shame to miss out on a few overs this evening due to the light, because we would have liked a bit more of a lead.

“The wicket is still doing a bit because, for two sides to get bowled out for less than 300, it has to be. There is a bit of variable bounce and as our seamers showed, if you get the ball in the right areas then there is plenty in it.”

Tim added: “We need to try to bowl them out and we fully back our bowlers to go out there and do so.”
