Tim signs contract extension
Somerset County Cricket Club are pleased to be able to announce that Tim Groenewald has signed a new contract extension which will see him stay at the Cooper Associates County Ground until at least the end of the 2019 season.
The 34-year-old joined Somerset from Derbyshire half way through the 2014 season and since then has gone on to establish himself as a vital member of the squad.
In his time with the Club, Tim has taken over 150 wickets across all three formats of the game and his consistently impressive performances for Somerset saw him selected for the North-South series ahead of last season.
After putting pen to paper on his one-year extension Tim said: “I’m really happy to be staying at the Club. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at Somerset and I wouldn’t want to play for anyone else. It’s an ambitious Club and no one involved is happy to settle for second best.
“Everyone works incredibly hard and wants only the best for the Club and the supporters. We’ve got the best supporters in the country and we all want to fulfil what they want, and that is success for the Club. Hopefully we can repay them for their great support in the next few years.”
Somerset Director of Cricket Andy Hurry said: “Since joining the Club Tim has been a consistent performer across all three formats. He has a vast amount of experience and has become an integral part of the team both on and off the field. He has proven to be a great asset for the Club and it’s great news for the Club that Tim has committed his immediate future to the Club.”Back to News
