Tom heading Down Under this winter

Tom Lammonby is heading to Australia this winter.

The 21-year-old will be playing Grade Cricket for Manly.

We spoke to him ahead of his flight to wish him well.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for me,” he said. “It will be good to be able to play some cricket this winter as well as keeping up with my training and S&C programme. I want to challenge myself by playing in different conditions. To be able to go out there and play some cricket is going to be extremely valuable because I want to keep learning how to score runs and how to win games.

“I feel very lucky to have this opportunity and it will be great to be able to get some time on the grass over the next few months. Being an Englishman in Australia in an Ashes winter means that I’ll probably get a bit of stick, but I’m sure it will be good fun.

“I think that sometimes you can overanalyse things in the nets over the winter, so to be able to just get out there and play cricket is great.”

Tom will be in constant contact with the coaching team at the Cooper Associates County Ground throughout his time Down Under.

“I’ll be in touch with the team back here regularly,” he explained. “We’ve got a great app now which outlines everything that we need to be doing each day, and that will be very handy.”
