Vitality Blast Preview: Somerset v Essex Eagles

THE MATCH

Somerset are in Vitality Blast action tomorrow (Friday) when we welcome Essex Eagles to the Cooper Associates County Ground.

Somerset are currently second in the South Group with 10 points from eight matches whilst Essex are ninth with four points from six matches.

HEAD TO HEAD

Since T20 was first introduced the two sides have met nine times. Somerset have won five of those matches and Essex have won four.

Somerset’s highest total in the series is 225 for two at Chelmsford in 2011 and for Essex it is 209 for five at Bath also in 2011.

The highest individual innings by a Somerset player is 108 not out by Marcus Trescothick at Chelmsford in 2011 and for Essex it is 105 not out by Ravi Bopara  at the same venue in 2010.

The best bowling for Somerset is four for 37 by Alfonso Thomas at Chelmsford in 2015 while for Essex it is four for 22 by Tim Phillips at Bath in 2011.

When the two sides met at Chelmsford on July 13th last year it was the home side who ran out the winners by 22 runs.

After being put into bat first the Essex total of 170 for six was built round an innings of 56 off 37 balls from skipper Ryan ten Doeschate who added 65 for the fifth wicket with Ashar Zaidi.

When Somerset replied they reached 148 for nine of which James Hildreth made 27, Jim Allenby 25 and Lewis Gregory 23 off 13 balls.

Looking ahead to the match Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “Momentum is huge and we have had two very good wins this week at home. Essex are always a strong white-ball side a will be tough opponents for us, so we are looking forward to the game.

“I thought that Jerome Taylor was outstanding in helping us to come out on the right side against Hampshire, but I thought that all of the guys stood up well.”

Gates will open at 2:30pm with play due to get underway 4:30pm.

Members and ticket holders can enter the Cooper Associates County Ground via The Priory Bridge Road Gate, St James Street Gate and the Brian Rose Gate.

Hospitality guests are invited to use the VIP entry point at the St James Street Gate.

MATCH DAY ACTIVITIES

Our team of volunteers will be on hand to distribute free Vitality Blast giveaways on match days whilst a number of our partners will be on site including:

ST AUSTELL BREWERY will be in the St James Street side of the ground in their Korev truck giving away free samples to over 18s. They will also be asking supporters to sign up to take part in our special interval competition which will see prizes up for grabs.

THATCHERS CIDER will be carrying out taste testing for over 18s in the Priory Bridge Road side of the ground. They will also be carrying out a special competition on the day and there is a case of Thatchers Gold up for grabs!

THE REAL SHAVING COMPANY will be giving away free samples on match days. They are also running a season long competition with big prizes for the winners! Make sure you visit them in the St James Street car park for more details.

SOMERSET COUNTY SPORTS. Somerset County Sports will be open throughout the match and is located near the Somerset Cricket Museum. You can visit their website here to check out their wide range of cricket equipment and replica kit.

KIDS ZONE. Our Kids Activation Zone will be set up in front of the Cricket Museum. Make sure you visit the Somerset Cricket Board Coaches and try out your skills!

SIGNING SESSION. After the match Somerset players will be taking part in a signing session in front of the Priory Bridge Road Stand.
