Vitality Blast Preview: Somerset v Gloucestershire

THE MATCH

Next up for Somerset in the Vitality Blast campaign is Gloucestershire at the Cooper Associates County Ground tomorrow (Sunday).

Play is due to get underway at 2pm.

In addition to this, regular updates will appear across our social media channels and a report on the day’s play along with quotes will be posted after the close.

HEAD TO HEAD

Somerset have faced Gloucestershire on 28 occasions in T20 cricket.

Somerset have won 12 of the matches, Gloucestershire have come out on top 10 times, four games have been abandoned and there have been two no results.

Somerset’s highest total in the series is 250 for three at Taunton in 2006 and for Gloucestershire it is 227 for four at Bristol in the same year.

The highest individual innings for Somerset is 116 not out by Cameron White at Taunton in 2006 and for Gloucestershire it is 101 by Michael Klinger at Taunton in 2016.

The best bowling for Somerset is four for 15 by Lewis Gregory at Bristol in 2011 while for Gloucestershire it is four for 16 by Jack Taylor at Bristol in 2011.

The last time the two sides completed a T20 match at the Cooper Associates County Ground was in July 2018.

Somerset won the toss and elected to field.

Ryan Higgins (55) top scored for the visitors as they posted a total of 188 for six. Lewis Gregory and Josh Davey both claimed two wickets for the hosts.

Chasing 189 for victory, Somerset lost Johann Myburgh with the score on 24 but Steve Davies (60 from 28) and Peter Trego (72 not out from 41) ensured that the home side won by six wickets with 19 balls to spare.

TEAM NEWS

Somerset are still likely to be without James Hildreth who had a scan on his hamstring this week.

Head Coach Jason Kerr has named the following squad: Lewis Gregory (c), Tom Abell, Babar Azam, George Bartlett, Eddie Byrom, Josh Davey, Steve Davies, Lewis Goldsworthy, Ben Green, Tom Lammonby, Craig Overton, Ollie Sale, Will Smeed, Roelof van der Merwe and Max Waller.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Club Captain, Tom Abell said: “Playing against Gloucestershire is always a massive game. I thik we need to win our remaining games now and I think that we are capable of that if we can get all of the pieces of the jigsaw together.

“We need to teak a couple of little things and make sure that we’re at the races on Sunday. It’s a massive game and one that we need to win.”

Somerset County Cricket Club are delighted to announce that live streaming for Vitality Blast fixtures will feature a dedicated commentary team.

As part of our live streaming partnership with Trade Nation, the move will allow production to be taken to the next level, with audio and vision in perfect harmony.

An integral element of our new stream will be our exciting new commentary team which will consist of Award winning BBC Radio Somerset presenter Charlie Taylor and SCCC Academy Director, Steve Snell.

BIG SCORES MEANS BIG MONEY FOR CHARITY

Trade Nation, our Vitality Blast Live Stream Partner, are set to ensure that big scores mean big money for charity when Somerset take to the field at the Cooper Associates County Ground this summer.

At each of our five home Vitality Blast fixtures, Trade Nation have generously agreed to donate £25 for every four and £50 for every six!

In addition to this, there will be eight 12 feet tall x 8ft wide TN targets situated in the stands and each time the ball strikes these letters Trade Nation will donate a further £250… so aim for the stands chaps! What’s more, no matter what the score at the end of the match, Trade Nation promise to send each charity home with at least £1,000.

Money raised at this match will benefit Children’s Hospice South West.
