HEAD TO HEAD
Since T20 cricket was first introduced the two sides have played against each other on 14 occasions, Somerset have won three of the matches, Surrey nine and two of the fixtures have been abandoned.
Somerset’s highest total in the series is 189 for four at the Cooper Associates County Ground in 2016 and for Surrey it is 208 for one at the KIA Oval in 2015.
The highest individual innings for Somerset is 86 not out by Johann Myburgh at Taunton in 2017, and for Surrey it is 122 not out by Jason Roy at the Oval in 2015.
The best bowling for Somerset is three for 20 by Josh Davey at the Oval in 2016 while for Surrey it is three for eight by Matt Dunn at the Oval in 2014.
In the game between the two sides at the KIA Oval two weeks ago it was Surrey who won the match by nine wickets.
After being put into bat in a match reduced to 10 overs per side Somerset reached 99 for six. Lewis Gregory top scored for the visitors with an unbeaten 50 off 23 balls with three fours and four sixes.
Surrey reached their target in 6.4 overs thanks to 28 from Jason Roy and an unbeaten 43 from Aaron Finch.
Somerset’s starting XI will be selected from the following squad: Tom Abell, Corey Anderson, Josh Davey, Steve Davies, Lewis Gregory (c), James Hildreth, Johann Myburgh, Craig Overton, Jamie Overton, Jerome Taylor, Peter Trego, Roelof van der Merwe and Max Waller
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Ahead of the match Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “Everyone played brilliantly against Hampshire and we were delighted to get the win on what was a tricky surface. It’s Surrey up next and obviously we had a reduced match up there recently so hopefully we can get all 20 overs in tomorrow. Surrey have got some very dangerous players but we’re incredibly confident in the brand of cricket that we’re playing at the moment.
“We’ve learned a lot and evolved throughout the competition. We’re seeing that the players are improving their cricketing intelligence out in the middle with each game. That stands us in good stead for this competition but also for the future.
“The South Group table is getting congested because the top teams keep winning and the bottom teams keep losing. That’s unusual because normally everyone seems to beat everyone else at some point during the season. If you look back to last year we would have qualified with 14 points. We’ve got 16 points already this year and aren’t guaranteed to qualify.
“The home crowd are phenomenal. We’re incredibly fortunate and play in front a big crowds in all three formats. The Members and fans are incredibly supportive and extremely knowledgeable and the guys are well aware of the value that brings to the dressing room and the Club as a whole.”
