Rain the only winner on day three
Heavy rain meant that only nine overs were possible on day three of this LV= Insurance County Championship match between Somerset and Surrey at the Cooper Associates County Ground.
Despite a number of showers throughout the morning, Surrey resumed on 191 for four at 11am this morning.
Josh Davey looked particularly dangerous during his opening spell and beat the bat on a number of occasions with some simply unplayable deliveries. Unfortunately for the home side he did not get the rewards that he deserved this morning.
During the nine overs that were possible, the visitors had advanced to 206 for four, claiming a batting point in the process, when the rain came.
After just 37 minutes of play the groundstaff were forced to bring the covers on, and there they stayed. An early lunch was taken at 12:45pm but shortly after that the heavens opened and a torrential downpour left standing water in areas of the outfield.
The umpires took the sensible decision to call play off for the day just after 1:30pm and a further downpour shortly thereafter highlighted the fact that the right decision had been taken.
