Johann joined Somerset initially on a one-year contract for 2014, but has remained at the club ever since.

He played domestic cricket in South Africa for Northerns between 1997-98 and 2006-7 and had also played for Canterbury in New Zealand, along with Hampshire and Durham.

Johann’s highest score in First Class cricket is 203 for Northerns against Easterns at Pretoria in 1997-8 while his highest in List A is for Canterbury versus Auckland at Christchurch in 2009-10.

In 2014 he played in 13 First Class matches for Somerset scoring 530, with a best of 91 on his debut against Yorkshire at Taunton in the season’s opener. Johann also played in three List A and four T20 games.

Johann opened 2015 with an unbeaten 150 against Durham MCCU. He then played in 10 Championship matches in the first of which against Durham at Taunton he scored 118.

He also made quite an impression in the T20 games he played that included helping Somerset to victory in Bristol against Gloucestershire.

In 2016 Johann scored 234 in the three First Class matches he appeared in at 58.50 to head the averages ,before he was injured.

Johann didn’t play any red ball cricket in 2017, but enjoyed an average of 40 in the Royal London One-Day Cup, while in the 9 NatWest T20 Blast games he appeared in he enjoyed an average of 36.26.
