Tom Banton suffers finger injury

Somerset County Cricket Club can today confirm that Tom Banton has suffered a finger fracture.

The wicket Keeper/batter sustained the injury in Somerset’s recent pre-season fixture against Warwickshire at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

No time frame has been set for his recovery at this stage.

Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “Obviously, this is a big blow for both Tom and the Club. He was worked hard over the winter on his red-ball game and we were seeing that hard work pay off already.

“He played beautifully in scoring a century against Glamorgan, and his batting throughout pre-season had shown a good deal of class and maturity. Whilst it’s disappointing for everyone, this gives someone within the squad the opportunity to make a mark in the opening fixture against Hampshire later this week.”
